SOMALIA FEDERATION OF TARADE UNIONS

Whom It May Concern 

Over the past 22 years, the state of Somalia was destroyed extensively, and the several phases of civil war affected greatly the public administration, and more particularly the Somali Federation of Trade Unions. However, in 2010, our organization underwent a full reassessment and managed to bring together the Somali workers, to have our constitution reinstated and to open again our headquarters that are fully and regularly operating in Mogadishu.
Recent activities
1. We advocated for the rights of more than 310 workers and issued the rights of 111 workers.
2. We organized, along with several security agencies, a nationwide conference to advocate the rights of the workers.
3. We achieved to effectuate our membership in trade unions at the regional and the international levels, and we participated in several conferences, namely the 16th World Federation Trade Union held in Athens, Greece.
4. We attended the Arab Trade Union Confederation conference, which was held the last year in Beirut, Lebanon.
5. We participated in the East Africa Trade Union conference, which was held last year in Khatroum, Sudan
We took part in a conference held in Brussels, Belgium (April 2012) where topics related to trade unions were discussed.
Current needs
a) We need to offer proper training session to the members of our executive committee (in total: 15 members) who must improve their skills of trade union management.
b) We need to publish our constitution, which is currently writ translate it to Somali and Arabic.
c) We need assistance in the reconstruction of the old headquarters of the Somali Federation of Trade Unions.
d) We need to properly equip our present offices.
e) We need assistance in properly undertaking a survey as regards the labor force in Somalia today and the possible ways to reinstate their rights.

We expect assistance from trade union organizations and federations across the world.\
